La Palapa Santiago Matatlan One of the most beautiful sights in Oaxaca is the Maguey fields, during this tour we have a unique surprise for our group to have lunch in the middle of Maguey field, where you will taste the traditional Oaxaca food made by a local family, the “Tlayudas” and “Memelas” from the grill. Here in the fields, you see the different species of Maguey, and of course, more Mezcal tasting with the local family.

You’ll taste 9 different mezcal labels straight from the producer, including varieties made from agave species such as Espadín, Tepeztate, and Tobalá. Along the way you’ll learn how each maguey shapes the flavor of the final spirit, and you can buy bottles at special prices directly from the distillery.
You’ll enjoy a traditional Oaxacan lunch prepared by a local family in the middle of the maguey fields. The menu features grilled tlayudas and memelas — classic regional dishes — paired with more mezcal tasting in a beautiful open-air setting surrounded by agave.
The tour heads to Santiago Matatlán, known as the World Capital of Mezcal, in Oaxaca’s Central Valleys. There you’ll visit a wild-agave palenque and its mezcal cave, walk among the maguey fields, and see the different species of agave used in production.
